Ski and Snowboard Graphic Design Project

As our culminating project for our graphic design unit, fifth and sixth grade artists designed their own skis or snowboards.  Our school is located at the base of Sugarbush's Mount Ellen, and skiing and snowboarding are important parts of many students' lives.  This project tapped into that passion and built upon their creativity and graphic design skills.  Should we submit our designs to ski and snowboard companies?

Fill-in-the-blank Landscape Drawings

Third and fourth grade artists used pages from landscape calendars to create these beautiful landscape drawings. We cut them into two inch trips, then removed every other strip. The artists used what we had learned during our color mixing unit to work on matching the colors in the original photograph using only colored pencils. I am so impressed with the quality of work on this lesson as well as the focus and effort that students put in to these. Look for many of them on display at the Bridge Street Art Fair!

Pre-School fabric painting for Children's Art Auction Quilt

Mosaics inspired by Kandinsky's Concentric Circles Inside Squares

Fifth and sixth grade artists looked at Kandinsky's famous painting, Concentric Circles Inside Squares.

 We used scraps of painted paper cut into tiny square "tiles."  Each student made one concentric circle mosaic, then we put them all together into a class project.  I put a coat of acrylic gel medium on the finished work.  This piece will be auctioned off at our Children's Art Auction at the Bridge Street Art Fair on Saturday, May 18.
