Fall Forests inspired by Gustav Klimt ... In Progress

First and second grade artists looked at several of Gustav Klimt's forest paintings. We learned that Klimt loved to spend time in the forests around his town. Click here to read more about Klimt's forest paintings and see others. 

We used masking tape to create trees in our forests and painted them with warm and cool colors.

Winter Watercolor Trees by Kindergarten

Kindergarten Leaf and Nature Collages

 

Kindergarten artists created collages using photocopies of leaves on colored paper and oil pastels.  This lesson helped practice our cutting, gluing and line drawing skills.

We also made leaf rubbings with crayons, then painted over them to experience the watercolor resist technique.  We added these leaves to our collages.

On yet another beautiful fall day, the kindergarten class headed outside to collage objects from nature for our moveable nature "collages."  We shared our materials to create temporary nature collages, which we photographed on the iPad before dismantling.

Fifth and sixth grade artwork 

Birds and Birches

First and second graders looked at the beautiful and fun collage illustrations in Lois Ehlert's book "Snowballs."

We used liquid watercolor paint with oil pastel resist to make colorful papers, which we used to cut out our birds. We used sheet music for our birch trees and added shading and detail with black oil pastels.
