Inspired by Andy Warhol's Flowers

Kindergarten artists learned about pop artist Andy Warhol.  We talked about how he made his prints of everyday items using bright, bold colors.  Here is one example Warhol's flower prints.  He made this print many times using many different colors.

Look at these flower prints! They take up a whole wall in an art gallery! 

Kindergarten artists used different shades of green acrylic paint on glossy black boards.  After spreading the paint with brushes, they used forks to add the grass texture to the paint.  Then they added cut paper flowers.

Fabric Painting for Art auction Quilt

Thank you M.L. and Jill for helping with our fabric painting project!  First and second graders painted fabric squares that will be sewn into a quilt for our art auction to benefit the PTO.  We used special fabric paints that reacted with sunlight to create prints.  We also added Kosher salt, lentils and alphabet pasta to our pasta to create some amazing effects.  We are so lucky to have AMAZING parent volunteers to help us with this massive project! 

Tie Dye for Art Auction Quilt

Thank you Jill for helping with our tie dye project!  Fifth and sixth graders each made a tie dye square that will be sewn into a quilt for our art auction to benefit the PTO.  We are so lucky to have AMAZING parent volunteers to help us with this massive project!

I couldn't wait to share this! Students have been working so hard on this lesson, but schedule changes due to our ski days and our artist-in-residence have really dragged it out. Here is a piece of student work, followed by my example. Artists really focused on color mixing and matching.  More to come!
