Paper relief sculptures and photography

Fifth and sixth graders experimented with creating three-dimensional sculptures out of our most basis two-dimensional material : white drawing paper. We discussed different ways to create paper relief and then artists experimented with applying these techniques to their sculptures. We set up a photography station, using an overhead projector to supply a bright spotlight. Students used iPads and basic photo editing to capture different views of their sculptures.

Painting Table Runners for the Community Thanksgiving Luncheon

Kindergarten artists helped us prepare for our annual Community Thanksgiving Luncheon by painting table runners with leaves and other Fall themes.

Two artists from the Bread and Puppet Theater are this year's Artists-in-Residence at Fayston School.  Katherine and Joe have joined us from Glover, Vermont to teach students about different types of puppet and mask making and help put together a school-wide production around themes of community and teamwork.

Monsters!

First and second grade artists turned their monsters from Monster Draw into large, colorful creatures with moving arms and legs. 

Mandalas

Matisse Goldfish Collage by Grades Three and Four

Third and fourth graders looked at Henri Matisse's Goldfish painting as inspiration for their Original Works Fundraiser collages.  We started by painting a variety of colored paper using different watercolor techniques.  Then we used crayons to create a patterned background using watercolor resist.  We looked at several examples of Matisse's paintings and collages for inspiration for the patterns and colors of the background and shapes to include in our collages.
