Inspired by Picasso's Flowers and Hands painting

Kindergarten artists looked at Picasso's famous painting of friends sharing a bouquet of flowers. We used oil pastels for the stems, tempera paint for the flowers and construction paper for the hands, which some artists chose to leave out. We created these pieces for our Original Works fundraiser.

Vermont Rural Partnership Conference

I spent Friday at the VRP conference in Montpelier. Fayston has been invited to be a VRP school. This organization encourages place-based learning and student empowerment. We are planning a school-wide project to learn about and document our school and our town's history.

Watercolor class at Helen Day Art Center in Stowe

Over the weekend I taught a watercolor class at the HDAC in Stowe. Students were very young, but also very creative and eager artists. We looked at Van Gogh's sunflower paintings and We worked on very large paper. One student stated that his painting was his best work ever!

Kindergarten Butterflies

Kindergartners made butterfly prints using tempera paint. They added colorful details with oil pastels. We learned about symmetry by making both wings of each butterfly the same.

Art Camp Day One

On Monday at art camp we made tiles for the "floodgates" community art project in response to Hurricane Irene. We also made doodle designs and clay slab vases.
